Odds to Win the 2019 Open Championship

For only the second time in course history, the Open Championship returns to Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland in the 2019 edition of the renowned major tournament from July 18-21. According to odds lists, Rory McIlroy is the favorite to go all the way.

McIlroy is the +850 front-runner to win the Open, with Brooks Koepka (+950), Dustin Johnson (+1600), Jon Rahm (+1600), Tiger Woods (+1600), Justin Rose (+2200), Patrick Cantlay (+2500), Xander Schauffele (+2500), Adam Scott (+2800) and Francesco Molinari (+2800) rounding out the top 10.

To find out which three golfers I’m picking to win this week, check out my PGA Tour Expert Picks piece.

The last time the Open was held at Royal Portrush was in 1951.

The last time the Open Championship was held at Royal Portrush was all the way back in 1951. Koepka came up short in his quest to win his fifth major championship in his last nine starts at last month’s U.S. Open, as Gary Woodland halted Koepka’s red-hot winning streak at Pebble Beach. Still, Koepka has now finished first or second in four of the last five majors and has two top-10s at the Open in his last three appearances.

Can Molinari Go Back to Back?

Molinari, the reigning Open champ, is not in the red-hot form he was in a year ago but is always a smart play when the PGA Tour heads to Europe. The Italian has fared well in two of the three majors this year, posting a T-5 at the Masters and a T-16 at the U.S. Open. Molinari did post an 8-over-par T-48 at the PGA Championship, however.

The course, a 7,344-yard par 71, will provide a stern test for the best players in the world. Royal Portrush is a classic rugged links course that constantly changes in both direction and elevation. The last big event to take place at the venue was the Irish Open in 2012, and Portrush will host the Open twice more by 2040.
