Battle Of Lefties When Red Sox Head To Yankee Stadium

Red Sox vs Yankees Betting Odds May 31, 2019

After getting rained out yesterday, the most heated rivalry in all of baseball will reconvene at Yankee Stadium tonight when the Boston Red Sox face the New York Yankees. The Yanks have been on a tear in May at 19-6 SU in 25 games while the Red Sox have dropped four of their last six. Boston has ace Chris Sale on the mound and he owns a 1.87 ERA in 15 career starts.

The Red Sox opened as -125 favorites with a total of 8.5.

Red Sox vs Yankees Game Center

Standout Stats

  • Chris Sale gets the start for the Red Sox and after a rough start to the year, he looks to be coming around with a 2.44 ERA in seven starts since getting clobbered for four earned runs by the Yankees in mid-April. He owns an insane 1.87 ERA vs the Yankees in 15 career starts, with that figure increasing slightly to 2.36 when hurling at Yankee Stadium.
  • J.A. Happ is on the bump and although the Yankees have won four of his five starts in May, he’s been getting smashed by opponents lately. The southpaw owns a 5.61 ERA this month and has allowed seven homers in May and 14 dingers in 11 starts this season. His ERA is 3.05 in 21 career starts vs Boston and he gave up six hits and two home runs to the Red Sox when he faced them on April 17.
  • The Yankees’ injury list looks like a borderline all-star team with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Luis Severino and Greg Bird on the IL, but it hasn’t slowed them down much. The Yankees are 19-6 SU in their last 25 games and haven’t lost consecutive games in May.
  • New York has not fared well this season vs left-handers. In 375 at-bats, the Yanks have managed only 11 home runs and 45 RBIs against lefties, compared to 79 home runs and 232 RBIs vs righties. On the flip side, the Red Sox have a .751 OPS vs lefties this season and rank in the top 10 in runs, doubles, home runs and RBIs.
  • UNDER bettors have been cashing in when the Yankees take the field at home. The UNDER has hit in eight of New York’s last nine games at home (average combined score: 7.4 runs). When these teams faced each other back in April at Fenway Park, the UNDER hit in both games. The UNDER has also hit in five of Chris Sale’s six road starts this season.

My Best Bet for Red Sox vs Yankees

I considered taking the Yankees as a home underdog because it’s very difficult for an opponent to go into Yankee Stadium and win considering they’re 19-11 SU in 30 home games. I just think Chris Sale has started to find his mojo again and I think he’ll go six or seven innings and should be able to hold the Bronx Bombers down, especially given how poorly the Yankees have hit left-handers this season.

If you don’t like the UNDER, take the Yankees moneyline because at the pace that they’re playing, you won’t get them as an underdog at home very often.
